SURPRISE!

so i'm in boston right now. about 2 months ago i emailed my best friend's fiancee and was all like, "hey, how about i come up to boston and surprise d for his birthday - assuming i can find a flight that i can afford?" she was all about it, and so now i'm here. he was very surprised (and mopey before i arrived, which is great :P). i also brought him some of my dad's deer jerky (my last pack, so he best be thankful as all get out!) and a homemade cookie cake. this cake was awesome, both t and d agree. here it is - complete with my berf-day wishes to d :)

if you'd like to re-create this masterpiece, you can use alton brown's recipe for the chewy. just don't bake it very long. i think this was in the oven for 12-15 minutes.
