empanadas! (or perhaps samosas...)

i had a hankering for empanadas - and i mean, who doesn't from time to time (or all the time)... so i googled dough recipes. i make a mean pie crust, so i assumed this couldn't be far off (and i was partly right/partly wrong). i think i put the dough in the fridge for too long - it was hard to work with when i was rolling it out. but it tasted ok in the end. all in all, they were pretty tasty little pockets of goodness (although they needed salt like a mo-fo - and we all know how much mo-fos need salt).

my filling. ground beef with onions and garlic cooked with lots of spices (curry, ginger, turmeric, cumin, etc). i added some water and flour to give it a thicker, saucy consistency. this is also where i debate empanada vs. samosa - when using an indian inspired filling, does that make it a samosa? or does the dough determine it?
one circle of dough rolled out.
dough with a heaping spoonful of filling.

folded over and crimped to seal.

fresh our of the oven - pure pockets of pleasure!

sliced in half. mmm... delicious.
